Digital campus expansion
The library is centrally located on the campus of Breslau Polytechnic University. Adjacent to the historic front building from the 1950s, the new structure closes off the main axis of the campus known as the “Professors’ Avenue” to the north. An open ground floor makes the building with its crosswise orientation a gate to the university campus. The new building’s Polish name “Bibliotech” refers to its special feature: most of the library materials are digital.

In the main building section, a generous cascading stairway joins the entrance hall on the ground floor to the reading and computer rooms on the upper storeys. The third upper storey houses the data centre and the associated laboratories. Light, rough fibrated concrete panels structured in reference to the existing buildings were used for the facade design. On the south side, the library building opens itself to the campus with large-scale glazing.
